ROCKING THE VOTE – The Retro Way

It’s November 4, 2008, and all I can say is…I thought this day would NEVER get here! I’m so anxious for the votes to be tallied to see who the next president will be that I can’t even bear the thought of turning on the TV and suffering through endless hours of projections. I just want to know and get on with it!

So, to pass some time, I set off to find some patriotic vintage wearables that celebrate the red, white and blue in a most patriotic way, while also fitting into darn near anyone’s budget. Here’s what I came up with:

Go visit HeidiJo1 at etsy for a fab patriotic retro belt – only $8

Wear your patriotism short and sassy in this vintage dress from whatcirca @ etsy – priced at $22

How about this awesome retro GOP pin from Daschiefriend @ etsy – a mere $8

Show the patriotic flower power with this pin from VintageReRun @ etsy – $8

Strolling Down Old School Animation Lane

Vintage cartoons are making a comeback in the online community. I just discovered a site called Vuze where mytoons.com is “bringing on the cartoon nostalgia” with our old school favorites — Popeye and Betty Boop for starters…

Reminds me of Saturday mornings in front of the old console rapt in the antics of Popeye, Olive Oil and Brutus. If you want to do the same again (only this time in front of your computer screen) check it out at http://www.vuze.com/channel/mytoons.

Magnolia Pearl on My Back!

Okay, I went insane a month or so ago and went on a little shopping binge at Magnolia Pearl. I almost escaped without a purchase, but the bohemian hipstress gods wouldn’t let me leave without a purchase. So, I am now the proud owner of a most fabulous and luxurious Magnolia Pearl Backpack. It is absolutely stunning and very ornate and everything you would expect from Ms. Brown. $830 later, it was at my doorstep in a matter of days. The only flaw is that the snap at the top of the backpack doesn’t stay closed when you carry it around. Robin…if you see this, what can I do to make it better?

My new lovely is still pictured on the MP web site, so I’ve linked to it because it’s gorgeous and I love it! I have another Magnolia Pearl purse that I bought a couple of years ago when she was just getting started and I love that one too! This one is far more elaborate, but they are both wonderful!

Yes, I worship at the alter of Magnolia Pearl and hope to one day visit her fabulous place in Bandera!

Magnolia Pearl Does Marburger Farms

Those of us in Texas who happen to worship at the alter of Magnolia Pearl, look forward to the annual trek to Marburger Farms for a chance to luxuriate in all the wonder of Robin “Pearl” Brown’s divine creations. She captured the process of preparing for Marburger Farms in a recent video below, and for those of you who can’t make the trip, maybe you can live vicariously through the frames of this video…

Grandma Was a Floozy…Indeed!

Besides having the most inventive store name ever, you have to wonder if there’s not an inkling of truth in the store owner’s family history. Floozies of the world unite and can now shop at Grandma was a Floozy  for some truly funky, sort of goth Victorian hippie glam cuffs, necklaces, and crocheted gloves. Some of my current favorites can be found below.

Speaking of goth inspired creativity, my friend Jessie in wonderful San Francisco, who also happens to be one of the most creative people I know, is about to launch her own line of goth inspired glam lovelies under the banner of Tinsel and Ashes. Keep an eye out for her–she’s going to be big! And visit her web site too — www.tinselandashes.com it will be launching soon. I’ll definitely post more details as they emerge.

Grandma Was a Floozy’s Little Vixen Gloves – $40

Rogue/Villian Men’s Cuffs – $36

Floozy be Mine – $36

Ring Around the Floozy – $10
